BE:longing

BE:LONGING is a project, which explores identity and belonging in a world shaped by political conflicts. My my roots span four countries. I was born in Moscow to a Ukrainian mother with Jewish ancestry and a Lebanese father who fled war. Raised in a Christian family, I speak Arabic and feel connected to my Jewish heritage.

People often ask me, Where are you from? For many, the answer helps define who they are. But my story resists simple labels. If I say I’m Lebanese, what associations come to mind? Am i victim or aggressor?

Each tag fits partially, but none fully. The truth is, I am all of these—and yet, not just one.

This project documents my journey to Moscow, Kyiv, Beirut, and Tel Aviv—places that embody my heritage and the intersections of identity. It explores the personal and political complexities of belonging in a world where borders divide not only lands but also identities.

These journeys are not without risks. In each country, I face legal and political challenges—navigating dual citizenships and cultural tensions—highlighting the absurdity of being questioned about my right to visit places tied to my family and history. Through video art and documentary storytelling, I aim to capture this search for home and the impact of conflict on personal identity.

In the end, this project is my way of asking: Where do I belong? And perhaps, it’s an invitation for others to consider the same.
